Using User Stories with PRINCE2 – Part 3
User Story implementation
User stories are usually presented on physical cards both to help in the planning, and the Project Manager plus specialist team to monitor progress.
The diagram below shows the normal information that is contained on the front and back of a User Story card:

Key information here should include and state:
- Who the primary stakeholder is – the role that derives business benefits from the story?
- What effect the stakeholder wants a story to have?
- What business value the stakeholder will derive from this effect?
The rear of the card contains the confirmation area, and this should include the acceptance criteria, the test criteria, both written as questions.
The acceptance criteria defined at a high-level, while the test criteria will confirm that the User Story is working as expected.
It is unlikely that this will include full test scripts but will act as aid try that and appoint a towards the appropriate test scenarios and Scripts.
PRINCE2 User Stories Summary
Most projects fail to one degree or another, due to detailed requirements being expressed too early in the project, coupled with the inevitable changes throughout the project.
By keeping such requirements at a high level, and under some form of change control, allowing them to be refined into further detail prior to the creation of the specialist products, far better flexibility and the likelihood of project success will be achieved.
