Using and Applying Microsoft Project 2010 AutoFilters

Using AutoFilters in Microsoft project 2010

This particular function has been greatly improved since previous versions of Microsoft project.

Microsoft project 2010 AutoFilters are now similar to those found in the Microsoft Excel spread sheet application, and will allow you to select the filter criteria from the drop down menus in the column headers.

Using The AutoFilter Functions

The AutoFilter function also allows both grouping and sorting of tasks.

To create a single parameter AutoFilter:

AutoFilters always select the associated summary tasks of any selected detailed tasks.

Turn the AutoFilter function on by selecting View, Data Group, Filter: drop-down box, Display AutoFilter.

The column headers will display the downward pointing black triangle button in the column header.

Click on this button in whichever column that you wish to filter, to display the relevant drop-down box.

Select the required criteria from the check box list

OR

Click on the filters heading as shown above, and this will open up a second set of selections, which in turn will provide many more options by opening the customer AutoFilter form:

Select the parameters that you wish to operate on from the four drop-down boxes, and choose either the AND or OR function radio button.

If you wish to Re-use your AutoFilter, you can save it by clicking on the Save button, which opens the filter definition form.

You may now select another column and create a filter based on two parameters to reduce the number of tasks displayed.

Once an AutoFilter has been applied, the column heading changes to the ‘funnel’ symbol.
