PMBOK Guide 7th Edition and PMP Exam Prep
You may or may not know that recently the Project Management Institute (PMI) released the PMBOK Guide ® 7th edition (Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).
The good news is that although changes to the PMBOK book could have lead to changes in the PMP Exam which would impact Projex Academy’s PMP Masterclass exam materials … it didn’t!
The PMP exam is not changing in any way as a result of the new PMBOK 7.
In short, the PMBOK 7th Edition will not change the 2024 PMP Exam
Updates to the PMI PMBOK Guide 7th Edition
Projex Academy has been provided with several updates from The Project Management Institute (PMI – the owners of PMBOK) as of March 2021.
The PMBOK Guide is just one of several references for PMP exam prep, but it is not a test preparation tool in and of itself.
On 2nd January 2021, when the new PMP Exam syllabus started, PMI advised such exams will continue to reference the PMBOK Guide – Sixth Edition as one of its reference sources.
The new 2021 PMP Exam will not reference the PMBOK Guide – Seventh Edition.
NOTE: the 2021 and onwards PMP Exam syllabus is not based on the PMBOK Guide, but rather on their newly published Exam Content Outline.
The Exam Content Outline summarizes the research conducted to create the PMP exam and includes the most critical tasks required for project managers to master their roles.
Indeed, the PMI has advised that this current January 2021 Exam Content Outline has been designed to stay relevant for the foreseeable future.
This is equally true for those who intend to take the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) Exam, as the current CAPM exam is based on the PMBOK Guide – Sixth Edition.
