Passing Your PRINCE2 7 Exams at First Try – Part 1

It goes without saying of course that you will want to study and learn from the best – So before you even consider applying for your exams, I strongly urge you to visit my PRINCE2 Primer MasterClass website HERE!

There are three main keys to PRINCE2 exam success:

  • Knowing the PRINCE2 Method well
  • Revising thoroughly
  • Practicing with sample questions

Unlike traditional exams when you were at school, college, or university, you will have been studying for many months or even a year or more Before starting your revision at the end of that particular learning period.

However, with PRINCE2 7, it is more likely that you’re going to be learning the method more quickly possibly over a few rush days if you are taking a classroom course, or over, say, two weeks if you are studying using my material.

For this reason, is because the learning period is shorter, it is far better to schedule revision time During the learning as well as at the end of it.  You will find that carrying out your learning and the revision in bite-sized chunks will help enormously in your memory retention during the exam itself.

Leaving yourself a big revision load just before the exam, and then working late into the night to cover it, and to a practice paper, is asking for trouble and is likely to lead to you misreading the questions or indeed your answer options.

Being Prepared for your PRINCE2 7 Exams

Having prepared well then it is important that you into the exam feeling confident.  Know that it is rare for anyone to fail the PRINCE2 Foundation exam so do not put yourself under any undue pressure.

If you have ever taken Exams before then you will know that being under pressure does not help and can cause Poor performance.  The first clue that you are stressed is that you find yourself reading the questions several times – A sure sign that you are not concentrating!

The most important advice I can give you is a repeat of some advice you were given at school – Read The Question. Quickly skimming the questioning an urge to find the answer choices is dangerous as the whole meaning of the question can often hang on a single word.

It has to be said that many questions have been poorly worded by the examiners themselves and it is therefore important that you understand the precise meaning that the question is posing – The difference between “Created “and “Updated “Can mean the difference between a right or wrong answer.

Answer The Question. You will have several possible answer options and will need to think through which of Those is the correct one.  A significant number of the questions will be phrased in the negative such as “Which of the following is NOT….”

In your haste to answer, it is easy for your brain to flip and find the option which is the answer to a positive not negative question.

But fail or pass in your PRINCE2 exams will often start on your journey to the exam location, so do arrive in good time by planning your journey carefully – It is far better to arrive earlier than planned and have time to settle down with a warm drink, and possibly even choosing A pleasant location within the exam room itself.

Tips for your PRINCE2 Exams

Do not revise late into the night as it is far better to get an early night and arrive in the exam room fresh and alert.  Your brain will always find an excuse to just go over a few more things at the last minute – And these help in the exam itself.

Treat the exam like a journey and think carefully about what you need to pack – So here are some ideas to make sure you have the right tools for your exam:

Sharp pencils.  Most folks prefer a wooden pencil because they have stronger leads and automatic pencils, and you are going to be filling in lots of ovals (the answer sheets have several ovals for each answer option, and you will shade in your choice).

You do not want the extra hassle of constantly breaking pencil lead so have a spare pencil or even two.  A pencil that has been dropped will often crack the lead in several places so make sure you have at least one spare.

Pencil sharpener.  You will normally find that this is provided, but if there aren’t enough to go around the last thing you want to do is to be racing your hands to sharpen your pencils.  Having your own sharpener right in front of you will inspire confidence.

Eraser. Assume that you will want to adjust your answer at some point throughout the exam, and again if pencils are provided they will have an eraser on the end – But they have often been used more than once for previous exams so make sure that you have bought your own.

Photo ID.  You will need to produce a photo it had to sit the exam so do not forget it as you will not be able to sit the paper.  A driving licence or passport is ideal, but some security passes are okay. Do check with the exam centre before travelling and check in advance that the it you are bringing is acceptable to them.

Sweets and water.  You may like to have some refreshments during the exam, but please, if you do take sweets into the exam room make sure that they have not got noisy cellophane wrappers.

I have personally found that taking one or two cans of energy drinks can keep you alert and focused.  These are usually high in caffeine so do check with your doctor first to make sure that they are suitable for you. Having one of these drinks before the exam may be beneficial.
