Editors note: This article was written years ago, back in the days when I was coding websites in HTML using a Notepad and looking at it with Netscape on a Windows 3.1 machine. I've deliberately not refreshed the system names as they have evolved. Everything written here, about the IBMi, the system previously known as the AS400, still stands. Just gotta love this machine!

you cant buy as400 or iseries anymore
Maybe you didnt notice this article was written back in the late 1990's... that's centuries in I.T. terminology. Linux was still a gleam in the eye of Mr Torvalds.
The iSeries machine you refer to has been superceded years back. The hardware has evolved from the original AS400, then to iSeries, then to Systemi and now to IBM's most recent platform - the Power Series. Still with triple 9 rated hardware availability. Most companies use hot switching system to seamlessly fail-over to the mirrored system in case of serious downtime (fire, flood, power out, nuclear attack, squirrels eating through the power cords, etc)
You can run linux on IBM Power as well... ;)
I use Microsoft Win7 and Ubuntu for my home computing, Android for my mobile computing and IBMi for business.
When it's critical and availability is essential then IBMi is the obvious solution.
