Will the Apple iphone work on Verizon? No but the new Blackberry Storm 95xx will! Hurrah!

Will iPhone work on Verizon?
Can you modify the iPhone software to make it work?
Is it worth waiting for the iPhone 3G to see if that works on Verizon?
No. No and No!
Apparently this is because the iPhone uses GSM phone technology which is not compatible with the CDMA system used by Verizon. Bwaaah!
Well, that is most definitely not the answer that I was hoping for.
I sort of played around with the Apple iPhone a month or so ago and really liked it but ended up selecting Verizon as my Phone Provider because of the slightly better coverage in my home area. I opted for the Blackberry Curve - a most excellent phone that I am thoroughly impressed with: The Curve has a good keyboard, email and SMS messages work great and the neat features like VZ Navigator are excellent.
So, I've been happily playing with my Curve and am generally very happy with it.
BUT... it's not quite as gadgety as the iPhone! Which just kind of niggles me. I dont know why... Well... I do know exactly why - it's because I am a techno-geek.
/me hangs head in shame ;)
So, I did a little poking around
I discovered the soon to be released Blackberry Storm (also reported as the Blackberry Thunder and or Blackberry 9500). This basically looks like the guys at RIM have scratched their beards, let out a collective Hmmm and then agreed in unison to bring out a iPhoneish Blackberry. It's a touch screen, has all the quirky features of the iphone (rotating screen, slidey buttons, etc..)

The BlackBerry 9530 will feature a huge 360×480 touch display which is bigger than the iPhone. I imagine it will come with comparitive versions of everything on the iPhone. It wouldnt make sense to deliver it with anything less? Certainly some of the Google mapping features and VZ gadgets are already better. j Iust cant wait to get my sticky little fingers on one.

I read somewhere that it will be launched early November 2008. Gonna get me one ASAP :)
I asked the Verizon bloke for the release date yesterday
I was in Verizon this weekend getting a new Jawbone Bluetooth headset (simply the best bluetooth handsfree headset I've ever used. Seriously.) and was told that the Storm *might* be available by Thanksgiving but most likely for December 1st. My friendly Verizon techie said that he couldnt wait to get his hands on one but they hadnt even had an early example arrive in store yet.
ooooh the excitement.
I READ ON ANOTHER SITE THAT
I'm upset It's not as sexy
I'm upset
It's not as sexy as I thought it was going to be... doesnt have the swish scrolling technique that the iPhone has and I'm really not convinced about the clonky CLICK screen thing. Makes me feel like my big sausage fingers are going to break it.
I only have a quick play in Verizon and it didnt blow me away... BUT - it was already sold out so I didnt bother giving the unit a good review as people were lining up to play with it.
I might stop in this weekend and give it a good looking at. In the meantime, there are lots of reviews on YOUTUBE now.
I still fancy the iPhone more - I must admit :(
