download open source image resizer - a free powertoy for windows vista

Finkpad's picture

I stumbled across a great open source power tool for windows Vista (which I'm running on this laptop) The Image Resizer PowerToy Clone is a free Windows Shell Extension that enables you to resize one or more image files on the fly by simply right-clicking on them. Exactly the same as the standard Microsoft one for windows xp - which is not included with Vista... for the life of me I cant figure out why.

I didnt realize how much I missed the old one until recently when trying to resize a huge batch of holiday snaps - vacation photos for you darn Yankees  Wink - photos.

This little utility is great.... open windows explorer and look at the folder with all you huuuge photos in it.... find the one (or multiples) that you want to resize... right click and select the image resize options.

Version 1 (which works perfectly with Windows Vista - which I'm running here) is attached to this blog but you can always download the latest version from here

great stuff

I recently upgraded to Vista and have really got to like it but missed the XP Powertoys. Image resizer should be built into the OS and I dont know why it isnt but this Great little utility worked first time. Double thumbs up from me.

You can also click the advanced link when you run it which allows you to resize files without making backup copies. This has saved me loads of time and I would recommend it to anyone.

open source licensing

reply to open source software being distributed with paid software. Open source software isn't distributed with paid software. consult  www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html for more details on general public licenses.

Lets keep free software segragated from propriortary license software :)

image resizer IS opensource

This image resizer is not distributed with VISTA or XP - its an Opensource addon.

I love the opensource concept and am huge fan of opensource products - like Linux (in all its flavors) and encourage everyone to scrap MSOFFICE and use OPENOFFICE   Wink   Incidentally this is why I was so delighted to find the image resizer.

For more info, the resizer is on SourceForge - http://sourceforge.net/projects/phototoysclone

Cheers.

PS: I'm not the owner, coder or anything of this neat little gadget: just a pleased user   Cool

yeah it a great tool, but I

yeah it a great tool, but I haven't been able to find how to fix the problem with the 64bit version of vista when right clicking it doesn't show the "Resize Pictures" option. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it???????

THANKS
